Emir Mohammadu Rumfa built Kofar Kawaye in the year 1466 AD. After 395 years the gate was renamed Kofar Nassarawa. The name Kofar Nassarawa originated from the palace built by the then Emir Abdullahi Dan Dabo (maje Karofi) at Nassarawa, as a Royal Guest House. After the completion of the palace, the Emir took a special ride with his servants, aides, flutters, gunmen, hunters and drummers, and passed through the Kofar Kawaye, where he stopped and officially renamed the gate as Kofar Nassarawa. Since that period the 'Hawan Nassarawa' is maintained as a routine part of the Durbar by his Highness the Emir during the two Sallah festivals (Eid-el-Fitr and Eid-el-Kabir).
