Part of the remaining ancient wall.
The (BADALA) old city wall dates back to some 1000 years ago. The circular wall was built to protect and secure the inhabitants of Kano City against external invaders. Its total radius is about 25km, a width of 2m and a height of 10m. Most of the wall has been destroyed due to lack of maintenance, erosion, weathering, encroachment and modern development. However, some parts of the wall are still standing. Part of the collapsed wall between Sabuwar Kofa and Dan Agundi ancient city gates was recently rehabilitated through assistance from the German Government. This magnificent and sprawling structure is definitely worth a visit, especially the section near Bayero University Kano.
It is important to note that, the building of the wall was carried out simultaneously with the old gates by various Kings and Emirs.
