The Middle School (now Rumfa College) was built during the reign of Sarkin Kano Alhaji Abdullahi Bayero in 1927. It is one of the oldest and most prominent schools in the Northern part of the country. The then Emir decided to build this gate in order to ease the movement of students to and from the college. At the same time it was called KOFAR KWALLI, because of its closeness to Kwalli Quarters.
