ADAMA married HANGA, a daughter of GAGIWA, who was the senior son DALA. That is why the then Sarki Usman named the gate as 'kofar Adama'. It was after 300 years during the reign of Sarki DAUDA DAN KANA JEJI in the year 1425 AD, that DIGACI an exiled ruler from Borno, who transited at Jigirya, a small village in the eastern part of kano (Yan Kaba Quuarters), moved to the old city and passed through ADAMA gate. Since then the Sarki DAUDA DAN KANA JEJI, ordered that the gate should be called KOFAR DIGACI.
It was 200 years later during the reign of Emir Mohammadu Zaki Danzaki who turbaned his first son, Abubakar Giwa as Wamban Kano that the gate was re-named after this traditional title (WAMBAI), due to its proximity to the Wambai's residence.
